Laura Rehorst is a Wisconsin based jewelry and metalsmithing artist. At the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee; she earned a Bachelor’s degree in jewelry and metalsmithing, before furthering her education with a Master’s degree in visual studies from Cardinal Stritch University. Her passion for jewelry making began when she received her first bead loom at the age of seven from her Mother. Since then there was no stopping her from experimenting with different materials and techniques in her craft. She has since experimented with combining metals, glass, and fibrous materials together.
Laura’s jewelry is a personal, and portable interpretation of her experiences throughout life. It simultaneously is an expression of her life-defining struggles and triumphs, as well as something that the wearer can carry with them through life during their own adventures.
In the future, Laura hopes to continue experimenting in her art. She is always searching for new materials to work with. Through contemplating the balance and relation of different material compositions, along with the extension of simple geometric shapes into more complex forms, she progressively explores and evolves the concept of structure in her jewelry.
